Girl Scouts Cassidy Elicker, left, Zoe Kirkland and Avery O’Neil grin as they dance at last year’s Burien Winterfest. This year, the community event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 7 on Southwest 152nd Street, downtown Burien.
It’s time for twinkling lights, carolers and choirs, sugarplum fairies and Christmas ships, Scrooge and the “Messiah.” It’s also time for our annual guide to all things happy and holiday. The events listed here will help you find things to do, familiar and new, through the new year.

Christmas Ships
Courtney Blethen Riffkin / The Seattle Times, 2011
The Argosy Christmas Ship makes a stop at Madison Park, in Seattle.
Northwesterners love boating. And holiday traditions. Put the two together and what do you get? The Argosy Christmas Ships, which ply Puget Sound, Lake Washington and Lake Union.
Reserve a spot on a light-bedecked Argosy ship, and settle in to hear live music on board during the cruises, which last nearly thee hours. Or join the floating parade with your own decorated boat. Or greet the ships at one of the many beaches they visit along the way — some locales offer bonfires. You can hear the music piped from the ships on shore.
From Shilshole to Dash Point, Kirkland to Pier 55, the ships visit many waterfront communities, with more than two dozen sailings in all. Find the complete schedule at argosycruises.com or call 888-623-1445.
