A TEAM of Nottingham companies have been appointed to deliver a £1m project to refurbish an historic Grade 2 listed building.

Dunham House in Southwell will be transformed into seven apartments.

It comes after a new £3m mission centre for the Diocese of Southwell Nottingham was built in the grounds of Dunham House earlier this year.

The same team which constructed the diocese building has been retained for the new development.

Nigel Spraggins, chief executive of the Dioceses of Southwell and Nottingham, said: “We are pleased to be able to continue to work with the same team of predominantly locally-based partners and look forward to a well-conceived refurbishment delivered to a high standard.”

Construction consultancy Gleeds will lead and manage the project on behalf of the diocese.

Architects from Mabers, located in Barker Gate, have also been appointed to work on the project, while Edmond Shipway will provide all mechanical and electrical consultancy services.

North Midland Construction’s Building and Civil Engineering division is the main contractor delivering the refurbishment works.

Mark Blakeway, board director of the Building and Civil Engineering division, said: “It is always particularly satisfying to do further work for a client as a result of a successful job and delivering best value on a high specification design is key to winning this contract.

“It’s great to be working within the same team which successfully completed the new diocesan offices, and who have all seamlessly focussed on this challenging modernisation of the historic Grade 2 listed Dunham House.”

Stuart Senior, main board director at Gleeds Nottingham, said: “We are delighted to be re-appointed by the diocese and relish the challenge of working on listed iconic structures like Dunham House.

“One of the key objectives will be to ensure the new buildings appeal to a contemporary market but retain the traditional structure and appearance that is required by the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.”

The existing character of the building will be retained to ensure the building is sympathetic to the standard of accommodation in Southwell.
