Scottish country estate in Argyll

A Scottish country estate with woodland, grazing, trout pond and ancient standing stone has come to the market in Argyll near Fort William

Achara is a country estate in Argyll in Scotland with a listed country property at its heart, nearly 200 acres of woodland and grassland, and an ancient standing stone. The principal residence, Achara House, is listed Category B. Built around 1900, the property sits in an enviable position overlooking its own parkland with views to the shores of Loch Linnhe.

Inside, the reception rooms are impressive and include a magnificent drawing room with a large bay window and the dining room, which seats 16. Upstairs eight bedrooms are spread over two floors.

Just a short distance from the house is the Coach House, which offers two bedrooms on the ground floor and living spaces up on the first floor. Watson’s Cottage lies to the rear and offers one bedroom, kitchen and a sitting room, all on one floor. Both cottages have been successfully let in the past. Padbury’s Cottage is a further one-bedroom cottage which is currently let.

Achara means ‘field of the monument’ in Gaelic

Outside, the gardens are a feature of the property and include fine lawns which centre around a beautiful, well-stocked trout pond, and a woodland garden with a path meandering up the hill. There is also a hard tennis court within the grounds.

In a field to the front of the property is an ancient standing stone believed to be over 3,500 years old: Archara derives its name from the Gaelic for ‘field of the momument.’
