A whole village in England is being put up for sale, and if you find that idea appealing because you’ve always dreamed of owning your own pub and harbor, think about how the residents feel before you get too excited. The village of Bantham is part of the Evans Estates, which are themselves going on the market next year for about $56 million, and Bantham is currently going for $16 million. In one sense, it’s a bargain — the village contains 25 homes, a harbor, a pub and a shop — but it’s also home to terrified locals who are concerned the new owners will make them move out and bulldoze the whole place. “Many people here have lived in Bantham for 60 years or more, with some tenancies being passed down through several generations of the same family,” resident Barbara Tucker, who runs the village shop, told the Daily Mail. “Whoever buys it needs Bantham in their heart, and that’s unlikely to be the case if it’s bought by a big clueless investment company.” [Source]
