BRITON Ferry Town Council has received written confirmation from heritage body Cadw about the town’s library.

The library — a listed building — is one of nine libraries threatened with closure by Neath Port Talbot Council, which has undertaken a review of the whole service.

A consultation on the proposed closures is currently being held.

In a letter to Briton Ferry Town councillors, Cadw has confirmed that the Neath Road library is a grade two listed building. It was built in 1901 as a public library and as the offices of the Briton Ferry Urban District Council, by architect H Alex Clarke, and contractor Thomas Waters.
