Imagine: For just less than a cool $1 million, you could live in a cottage in the Hollywood Hills where John Lennon once laid his head.

The home, described as a ‘treehouse’, has been listed for sale by its most recent owner, Australian Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe, who bought it in 2006 for $879,000.

Information of Lennon’s exact activities in the home are scant in the property’s listing, but the home itself reveals tantalizing details about Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono’s lifestyle.

The two-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom home’s huge deck is covered in sun lounges and the master bedroom has sliding Japanese-style rice-paper doors and views over Hollywood.

The kitchen leads out onto open-plan living areas, where, according to the listing, ‘rumor has it some of the world’s most beloved songs were written while enjoying the stunning city views.’

Private: Although the home has decking on all sides, it's hidden from view by tall trees

It was never the scene of one of Ono and Lennon’s ‘bed-ins’ for peace, but the house, which was built in 1961 by a ‘successful actor’ looks cozy and charming and likely played host to some fairly interesting Laurel Canyon residents during the time it was inhabited by Lennon.

Laurel Canyon was a hive of counterculture activity during the 1960s and many of the world’s biggest rock stars made their homes there, including Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison and Joni Mitchell.

According to LAist, Lennon was a fixture on the nearby Strip and was once kicked out of The Troubadour for heckling the Smothers Brothers.

He attracted further attention when he put a Kotex pad on his head and went to see an Ann Peebles show.

The bohemian 960-square-foot bungalow is set in a secluded location, but is only minutes from West Hollywood.

Thorpe has listed the property for $999,000 – a small price to pay for the honor of resting your head in the same place as rock royalty.
