John, who only has one eye, said: “I believe I’m the most featured world record-holder in the book. I have 33 world records in 11 different categories.

“I’m really proud to be in the latest book because it’s such a prestigious publication that highlights such brilliant and different achievements.

“To get selected with such strong competition out there is a real honour. “

During his career, John has raised over £200,000 for charity in 20 years. mostly for the Derbyshire Association for the Blind.

Some of his greatest achievements include balancing two bunk beds, that were 12 feet high, on his head for BBC Children In Need in 2007.

He also featured on the South Korean TV show Starking where he balanced a 140kg fridge freezer on his head for 13 seconds.

John is diabetic and does not visit the gym but puts more preparation into the psychological side of weight lifting.

He said: “I’m also confident that I’ve appeared on more TV shows than anybody else who does this.

I’m usually very calm and I suppose I have to be because of the consequences of what happens if it goes wrong.

“When you’re balancing things with that amount of weight I do think I could die here if I have a change of balance. I get a massive adrenalin rush from it though, when you’re balancing, because I release air in my body and then the weight feels as light as a feather.

“It’s very strange but I love it.”

His family have not always shared his passion and enthusiasm for the daredevil activity. John, of Awsworth Road, said: “My wife, Gloria, and the rest of the family have always felt a bit embarrassed by it all, I think.

“I do get recognised when I’m walking in the streets, which has become a bit of a regular occurrence, because I’ve been doing the balancing for long enough mow.”
