Renovation on track for York listed building

Property Alliance Group has completed the external renovations of 20 George Hudson Street in the heart of York as part of a major refurbishment project that will result in 18,500 sq ft of office space.

The grade II-listed, four-storey building, was previously home to the City of York Council and is located close to York railway station.

Property Alliance Group has carried out a £250,000 external renovation, including repointing the front elevation, overhauling the roof and installing double-glazed windows into the existing wooden frames to reflect the original features of the property.

Inside, the building has been stripped back to its shell ahead of the interior refurbishment which will result in a new entrance foyer, suspending ceilings, toilets, skylights and kitchenette facilities on each floor as well as upgraded lift and common areas.

Ian Hunter, director at Property Alliance, said: “We have extensive experience of renovating listed buildings, so all of the external work has been sensitively carried out to reflect the original features of this period property.

“The internal refurbishment is due to start by the end of August and should be completed towards the end of this year with accommodation that can meet an occupier’s bespoke requirement.”

Jonathan Shires, director of office agency at CBRE Leeds, added: “There is currently a real lack of quality grade A space within York city centre so we expect to see a healthy interest in the George Hudson Street property.

“As well as being an attractive listed building, the investment into the refurbishment will undoubtedly benefit both new and prospective tenants.”
