Leading lights from the procurement profession gathered in London yesterday evening to celebrate reaching the shortlist of the CIPS Supply Management Awards 2013 .
Buyers from firms across diverse sectors shared success stories and a luxury barbecue in the sun on the banks of Grand Union Canal at Kings Place, location for the CIPS Annual Conference .
Among those rubbing shoulders were senior figures from HP , Innovia Films , Sellafield Ltd and Jaguar Land Rover .
Duncan Brock, customer relationships director at CIPS, welcomed attendees by saying: “It’s a really exciting time to be in the procurement world.”
As people chatted and soaked up the atmosphere what became clear was the level of energy and innovation present in the industry.
Later Brock said: “I’m encouraged by the quality of the entries and innovations coming from organisations. It’s fascinating as a judge to look at the whole spread of entries. I don’t see a sector where I don’t see pockets of really good practice.
“That is the fascinating thing about procurement as a profession. We can bring value to any organisation in any sector.
“I think the awards are a way of recognising excellence and a way of promoting the value of procurement.”
Entrants will discover if they have been successful at a sumptuous gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London, on 11 September, hosted by acclaimed impressionist and comedian Jon Culshaw.
AirPlus is the headline sponsor of the event, which is also supported by Hays Procurement . QinetiQ Commerce Decisions is the official technology provider for the judging.
