Volunteers are being sought for a series of heritage open days in Norwich, which make up the largest and most popular voluntary cultural event in England.

Organised by Norwich’s Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (HEART), the open days take place from September 12 to 15 and celebrate Norwich and Norfolk’s fantastic heritage, architecture and culture.

During the four days, more than 200 events take place and interesting and unusual properties open their doors to the public for free.

There will be open buildings, guided tours, exhibitions, talks and music and dance performances, with participating venues including museums, private homes, churches, shops, restaurants, pubs and workplaces.

Norwich Heart is looking for volunteers to help from July onwards with the organisation and running of events during the festival in September.

Nikki Twyning, heritage open days ambassador and volunteer, encouraged people to play their part in promoting Norwich.

She said: “I loved every minute of volunteering at last year’s heritage open days – from getting the tickets sorted for people, helping with a filming project to hearing visitors speak so enthusiastically and positively about the city I love.

“I had an absolute blast and cannot wait for heritage open days to come round again this September.”

Volunteer roles include taking booking and helping with event administration, coordinating social media and event photography, working with visitors, answering questions and showing people around the events as a building steward or ambassador.

Organisers say volunteering is an ideal opportunity for heritage lovers or those looking to build their CV experience.

A brochure of the free events being organised in Norwich, South Norfolk, Great Yarmouth, Thetford, Broadland and surrounding areas will be available from tourist information, libraries, post offices and shops from August 5.

Events for Norwich and South Norfolk will also be listed on www.heritagecity.org/hods from the same date.

To find out more, email hods@heritagecity.org or call 01603 305575. An induction day will be held at the Guildhall, Norwich from 2pm to 6pm on July 29.
