Winning Express: Now set to head to Glorious Goodwood
Winning Express is set for Group Three duty after landing the second Listed-race success of her career at Warwick last week.
Trainer Ed McMahon decided to skip Royal Ascot with the 1000 Guineas fourth and drop her back to seven furlongs following her fine effort behind Sky Lantern in the fillies’ Classic.
The move paid off with a comfortable victory in the Eternal Stakes. The Camacho filly will stick to that distance but step back up in class, beginning with the Oak Tree Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
The Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster’s St Leger Festival in September is also on the agenda, with McMahon planning to have a look at the Coolmore Stud Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary on August 22 as well.
“She’s very well. It was the obvious route (to go to Warwick). There was no point going to Royal Ascot for either of those two races (the Coronation or the Jersey) down there,” said the Lichfield handler.
“It was a good stepping stone ahead of the Oak Tree. There is a race at Tipperary, a Group Three, in between the Oak Tree and the Sceptre Stakes.
“We’ll see if we want to go over there depending on the ground, but that is an option as well.”
