Abbott is a web developer and online marketer who saw opportunity in the measures passed in Colorado and Washington last November when the states voted to legalize marijuana for recreational consumption. “The night of the election, I went on a domain name buying spree. To this day I’m still finding great cannabis-keyword domains that people haven’t snatched up.”

Abbott predicts a smaller-scale “dot-com boom” in the coming months. “Once the legal framework for how this industry is going to work gets fleshed out, there will be a flood of entrepreneurs who will be trying to get a piece of the market. I’m sure they’re already out there thinking about this unique opportunity. Of course the federal government can try to shut down the industry, but it’s going to be too big and too costly for them to make a very serious dent in it once it gets going.”
