There are almost 200 foreclosure homes in Novato and they’re selling for an average of $185,000 less than non-foreclosure houses.
The latest report from Realty Trac shows 177 homes in some sort of foreclosure in Novato with eight of those houses for sale.
The median sale price for foreclosure homes was $265,000 in April. That was 2 percent higher than April 2012.
The median sale price for non-foreclosure houses was $400,000, down 5 percent from a year before.
In May, the number of properties that have received a foreclosure filing in Novato was up 11 percent from April and down 57 percent from May 2012.
Overall, homes sales in Novato in April were down 3 percent from the previous month and down 70 percent from the year before.
The figures were part of a national report released by Realty Trac that showed there are 712,000 foreclosure homes in the United States. Of those, 167,000 have been vacated by their owners.
