Huron-Clinton Metroparks boast numerous summer events

School is out and kids are anticipating family fun, but in a poor economy with rising gas prices, funding a wholesome family fun vacation can seem near impossible.

However, the Huron-Clinton Metroparks offer 25,000 acres of beautiful parks that are close to home.

There are 13 different Huron-Clinton Metroparks to enjoy with scenic nature trails, beaches and educational activities. Ten public golf courses and two marinas on Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair are also accessible.

“The Huron-Clinton Metroparks bring first-class, affordable getaways for everyone in southeast Michigan,” said John McCulloch, director of Huron-Clinton Metroparks. “We’re kicking off the 2013 season with new activities and a packed events schedule.”

The pools and water facilities opened Memorial Day weekend. The wave pool’s opening at Lake Erie Metropark was delayed due to concrete repairs, but it is now open.

There are many new events this season to enjoy. They include:

— The Rip Slide, a three-story inflatable waterslide, located near the wave pool at Lake Erie Metropark.
