Welsh stars including comedian Rob Brydon and classical singer and television presenter Aled Jones are among those named in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.

BAFTA-nominated Brydon, who plays ‘Uncle Bryn’ in the comedy series Gavin Stacey, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to comedy, broadcasting and charity.

An MBE is awarded for a significant achievement or outstanding service to the community.

Aled Jones, who rose to fame as a child treble and now presents ITV’s Daybreak, has also been made an MBE for services to music, broadcasting and charity.

Also honoured is Timothy Rhys-Evans, director of popular choirs Only Men Aloud and Only Boys Aloud, who has been made an MBE for services to music and charity.

Meanwhile Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire Kirsty Williams has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for public and political service.

This is generally awarded for having a prominent but lesser role at national level, or a leading role at regional level. A CBE can also be awarded for a distinguished, innovative contribution to any area.
