Walker hoping Guns will fire

Trainer Ed Walker believes Sound Of Guns will be suited by the drop to five furlongs when she goes for a Listed success in the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Scurry Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.
The daughter of Acclamation has been beaten over six and seven furlongs in her two starts this campaign, while arguably her best two performances last season were over the minimum trip.
After running Rosdhu Queen to three-quarters of a length in the Listed St Hugh’s Stakes at Newbury, she was a close third behind Sir Prancealot in the Group Two Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster.
Newmarket-based Walker said: “She’s in great form. I think she will relish going back to five furlongs. We could have done with a better draw (seven), especially with Morawij being drawn one, but she will love the fast ground and love the trip. She is very well at home and we are very hopeful.”
March completed a hat-trick over this distance when making a successful seasonal reappearance at Windsor last month, but she is stepping out of handicap company.
Her trainer Marco Botti said: “She’s done nothing wrong and is a very speedy filly. I thought she won well at Windsor. I expect she has come on from that and it is a step up in class and against some useful colts as well.
“However, we are happy with her and we are aiming at some black type. There are not many races of this type for three-year-olds and there are very few left this season.”
Normal Equilibrium is taking a similar leap after landing a cosy win at Chester five weeks ago.
Trainer Robert Cowell said: “He won his last start up at Chester in good order and we think he’s worth a chance going into a slightly higher grade. There’s not a lot from where he is to Listed horses, but he will have to prove he is an 8lb to 10lb better horse than his mark to get involved. He likes the track, he’s a speedy little horse and he’s got a big heart.”
Dominate was a course and distance winner last year and his trainer Richard Hannon is looking for a decent show. He told his website: “Dominate has won over the Sandown five, so he should go well in the Listed Scurry Stakes on the Esher course. He is all speed and breezed well up at Everleigh on Thursday.”
