The Bull listed among the finest pubs in England

A WROTHAM hotel has been selected as one of the best places in the country for a pint.

The Bull, in Bull Lane, was named by The Guardian newspaper as one of its top ten summer pubs.

The recently refurbished inn is included in the publication’s two-for-one deal this month, which covers 50 pubs across England and Wales.

Lygia Deadman, who manages the pub with husband Martin, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic. We hadn’t applied ourselves – it was a complete surprise.

“We are listed in a pub guide of inns across the UK and The Guardian shortlisted places from there. We are really proud.

“I think the Guardian liked our food. We have an AA rosette and use fresh ingredients from local suppliers – eggs from Woods, meat from Glovers, cheese from Winterdale, and Dark Star ale from a Surrey microbrewery. Also the building is very nice, it’s from the 14th century with wood fires and a very warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s quite different from other local pubs and we are very proud. It’s amazing the difference the article has made – we have been so busy since it came out, lunchtime is packed.”
