Dyandra Media International, the exhibition and events arm of Kompas Gramedia Group, will build a joint-venture enterprise with event organizers London-listed Tarsus Group and Malaysia’s UBMG Holdings as part of their expansion plans, a director said on Friday.

“We will form a new company — Dyandra UBM International and Dyandra Tarsus International. The share composition is half and half,” said Danny Budiharto, Dyandra’s operational director, following Dyandra’s first shareholder meeting on Friday.

The venture was intended to bolster the company’s activity in the MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) sector, he said, adding that Dyandra was targeting up to five large exhibitions.

“For example, UBM held a jewelry exhibition in Hong Kong and they will bring it to Indonesia in 2014, while Tarsus has a strong presence in car components.”

Dyandra has set a goal of holding 800 events in 2014, increased from this year’s target of 750. In 2012, the company held 700 events, mostly brand launches. Dyandra is is understood to be preparing a major automotive exhibition, the “Indonesia International Motor Show,” which it claims will break records for its size.

“The Motor Show next year will be held in Bumi Serpong Damai. It will be four times bigger than Kemayoran,” he said.

The 150,000-square-meter exhibition hall was set up in a joint venture with Sinarmas Land in 2011. it is predicted to be completed by the middle of next year.

In addition, Dyandra also plans to complete the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center in August this year. The property will be used for an APEC conference in October and a WTO meeting in December. Other projects include Gramedia Expo in Surabaya, to be completed in November, while the finishing touches will be applied to Gramedia Expo in Makassar by the end of 2014.

Due to its population size, Indonesia is considered a promising market for events.
