2 vacant houses burn in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — Firefighters battled two vacant house fires on the same North Side street about 6 p.m. Saturday.

Battalion Chief Gary DiTullio said crews were called to 369 Grant St. and found heavy smoke coming from the second floor when they got there. DiTullio said a quick search was done on the first floor but firefighters were pulled out because of the heavy fire. The home was allowed to burn down and is a total loss, DiTullio said.

As crews were cleaning up that scene, another fire was discovered in the back and second floor of a home at 360 Grant St., DiTullio said. Firefighters managed to save that home. Loss is listed at $6,000, DiTullio said.

The cause of both fires is under investigation. No one was injured.
