Decaying religious theme park for sale at cut price

The owners of a decaying religious theme park have slashed $156,000 off its asking price two years after it was first put up for sale in the US.

Holy Land USA in Waterbury, Connecticut, can now be purchased for the price of an average family home at $363,000, according to a listing on www.realtor.com.

The 18-acre park features a replica Bethlehem, giant cross, and chapel, all of which fell into disrepair after founder John Baptist Greco died in 1986 and left it in the hands of a group of nuns.

The park was listed for sale for $805,000 in 2011, which dropped to $519,000 before it was cut again to $363,000 last week.

The property is being sold by William Raveis Real Estate as a “single family home”.

The park had been crumbling quietly out of the public eye until July 2010 when a 16-year-old girl was raped and murdered in the grounds.
