Memorial Day events throughout the Capital Region

ALBANY, N.Y. — Memorial Day is a day when Americans remember the men and women who died serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Various celebrations, memorials, and parades will take place throughout Memorial Day weekend, and we’ve listed many of them below. If we’ve missed an event, leave us a comment at the bottom of the page including the date, time, and location, and we’ll be sure to add it.

*Note, these events are subject to change due to weather.

ALBANY COUNTY:

City of Albany Memorial Day Parade

  • Date Time: 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 27.
  • Route: The column will proceed east on Central Avenue and continue east on Washington Avenue to Hawk Street.
  • Note: If the parade is cancelled due to weather, the ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. in the Albany City hall rotunda.

East Greenbush Memorial Day Parade

  • Date Time: 10 a.m. May 25
  • Route: Will begin at Spare Time Bowling Lanes at 570 Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush. Parade continues west along Columbia Turnpike and will end at the Post on 200 Columbia Turnpike.

President Chester A. Arthur Memorial Day service

  • Date Time: 11 a.m. May 26
  • Where: Albany Rural Cemetery

USS SLATER opens for tours

  • Date Time: 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sat., May 25; Sun., May 26; and Mon., May 27.
  • Admission: $8 Adults/ $6 Children

Bethlehem Memorial Day Parade

  • Date Time: 11 a.m. Monday, May 27
  • Route: Starting at the Nathaniel Adams Post on West Poplar Drive in Delmar

COLUMBIA COUNTY:

ESSEX COUNTY:

Memorial Day at Fort Ticonderoga

  • Date Time: 11 a.m. Monday, May 27
  • Events:
  • -Guided tour at 10:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
  • -Salute to the soldiers at 11 a.m.
  • -Garden and grounds tour 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  • -Cannon demonstration at 2 p.m.
  • Location: 100 Fort Ti Rd., Ticonderoga, N.Y.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY:

Town of Florida National Veterans Memorial Park

  • Event: Sunset ceremony
  • Time Date: 7:30 p.m. May 26
  • Where: Fort Hunter Road between State Highway 161 and State Highway 30 South, about 4 miles south of I-90 exit 27.

RENSSELAER COUNTY: 

17th Annual Memorial Day Parade

  • Date Time: 11 a.m. May 27 (rain or shine)
  • Route: Parade will start at 123rd Street and Fifth Avenue, heading south on Fifth Avenue to 115th Street then north on Second Avenue. The parade will continue to the reviewing stand located at Second Avenue and 121st Street.

SARATOGA COUNTY:

Saratoga North Creek Railway

  • Event: offers veterans ride-free program. Military uniforms encouraged.
  • Date: From May 25-27

Ballston Spa Memorial Day Parade

  • Date Time: 9 a.m. May 25
  • Route: Begins in the OSJL parking lot on Route 50 (Doubleday Avenue) in Ballston Spa. It will proceed down Route 50 with a stop at the bridge going over the Kaydeross creek for a naval Memorial Service. It will then head down Milton Avenue to Front Street and turn onto Low Street. A ceremony will be held at Veterans Park.

American Legion Post 1450 Memorial Day Ceremony

  • Date Time: 11 a.m. Monday, May 27
  • Where: American Legion Pavilion at 275 Grooms Rd.

2013 Memorial Day Service

  • Date Time: 11 a.m. Monday, May 27
  • Location: Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National cemetery at the main flagpole and ceremony area
