Memorial Day events listed for coastal Alabama – Press-Register

A flag-lowering ceremony will be held at 6 a.m. May 27 at the Alabama Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Battleship Park. to honor those in the military and those who have given their all in service to the nation.

A Memorial Day ceremony will be held May 27 at the National Cemetery on Virginia Street in Mobile. The 15-minute ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m.

The new Alabama State Veterans Cemetery will be the setting for a May 27 Memorial Day service. The 45-minute formal ceremony begins at 11 a.m. with keynote speaker Gov. Robert Bentley. Local veterans and military organizations will be represented; many elected officials will be in attendance.

The William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette will hold an annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. May 27. Governor Robert Bentley will deliver opening remarks and Sy Lichtenfeld, a U.S. Army veteran and World War II Ex-POW, will be the keynote speaker. Barbie Hardy will perform the National Anthem. A tolling of the bell for deceased veterans and a rose ceremony for the families will be held as well. For more information, call 251-937-9881.

The Baldwin Pops Band will hold a free Memorial Day concert at 6:30 p.m. May 27 at Henry George Park in Fairhope. Dr. Roger Jones and Joe Riemer will conduct the band in patriotic and American music.
