Supervisors agree to extend listing of Events Center property

MASON CITY — Cerro Gordo County supervisors agreed Tuesday to an extension of up to 24 months on a real estate listing for a tract of land just east of the North Iowa Events Center.

The 2.3 acres of land, owned by the North Iowa Fair Association, is frontage property on the highway and has been on the market for more than two years.

It was listed with EXIT Realty a year ago for an asking price of $700,000.

Prior to that, in September 2010, Kinseth Hospitality made an offer of $660,000 to purchase the property with plans to build a hotel.

Kinseth withdrew the offer shortly after Holiday Inn Express announced plans to build a hotel directly across the highway from it.

In other business, the board:

• Agreed to continued county participation in the 21-county social services consortium. The board gave first approval to the participation last month. Tuesday’s action was necessary because of minor revisions that had been made to the original agreement.

• Agreed to hire Kellar Construction Co. for remodeling of restrooms on the ground floor of the courthouse at a cost of $26,197.

• Approved five dock permits and three manure management plans.
