Forest Green Road has been listed as one of the worst roads to be affected by potholes in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in the last year.
Figures obtained from a Freedom of Information request show the number of pothole repairs undertaken by the council almost doubled in the last financial year as harsh weather took its toll.
It had to carry out 4,087 carriageway repairs to defects which could be described as potholes, up from 2,575 last year.
The figure makes 2012/2013 the worst year for potholes in the borough in the past five years.
A spokeswoman for the council said a prolonged period of rain, snow and low road temperatures had taken their toll, with inspectors finding previously unreported potholes in residential roads.
She added the council ‘is always looking ahead to try and prevent deterioration of our roads’ and is spending an additional £300,000 on resurfacing works across the borough.
Forest Green Road, which has recently had its speed limit lowered from 60mph to 50mph, joins Dedworth Road in Windsor and High Street in Ascot as the worst affected roads.
The number of members of the public contacting the council about potholes increased to 1,398 from 856 last year, with most people getting in touch with the council to report the location of potholes rather than to complain about them.
