IPSWICH Town duo Michael Chopra and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas have both confirmed today’s exclusive story – that the pair have been made available for transfer – on social networking website Twitter.

Shortly after this paper revealed that manager Mick McCarthy had told the two high-earning fringe players that he would like to cash in on them this summer, both took to the internet to write a few words – and with contrasting tones.

Chopra, whose two seasons at Portman Road have been blighted by a series of off-field controversies, wrote: “Just coz I’m on the transfer list does not mean I hav 2 leave I hav 1 year left on my contract its down 2 the player if he wants 2 go or not.”

The 29-year-old striker – who scored just five goals in 17 starts and 19 substitute appearances this season – is understood to be the club’s top earner on 18,000-per-week.

When a fan goaded him for being left out of the squad for last Saturday’s season-finale at Burnley, he replied: “Haha still get paid.”

Emmanuel-Thomas – whose flair approach to the game just doesn’t seem to fit in with McCarthy’s organised and hard-working ethos – was far more gracious.

The 21-year-old, who made 13 starts and 19 sub appearances this season, wrote: “Time for a new adventure, had a great time but my time is up. #ThankYou.”

The former Arsenal man – who Town paid £1.1m for in the summer of 2011 – is also entering the final year of his deal. The Blues paid Cardiff £1m for Chopra that same summer.

On a web poll run by this newspaper’s website, a resounding 94% of people said that McCarthy was right to try and sell Chopra, while only 56% said that they think Emmanuel-Thomas should be sold.

The EADT understands that McCarthy is closing in on the signings of midfielder Cole Skuse – out-of-contract at Bristol City – and Notts County winger Alan Judge, who has already confirmed he is looking to move up from League One.

  • Russell Steroo, McCartney? Wasn’t he in the Beatles? Now, off you go back to your bedsit, curtains closed, typing one handed vile tripe about subjects which you know little and understand even less. Chopra has failed. He’s on the way out. It’s the right decision.

  • Sadly, Chopra, JET and Martin have missed their chances – the club must move on and develop a new character and backbone. A midfield dynamo, leader and creative flair player are musts.

  • As Victor Meldrew says these comments sum it all up. Chopra has never shown any gratitude or loyalty to the team that stood by him. Glad MM is getting rid – though think he should have done this in January kept Scotland. Feel a bit sorry for JET – think he was beginning to show that given the right sort of encouragement he would respond !!

  • For those Town ‘supporters’ congratulating Myth McCartney on attempting to unload the bad apple that is ‘he’s been brilliant for me’ Chops, the simple question is what were you saying when Keane tried to sign him for £4million …. and what did you say when Jewell made the hilarious decision to sign him for £1million.

  • The Chopra comment sums him up – only interested in taking his wages, not earning them. I just hope the club have been deducting money for the loans they gave him when **** hit the fan over his betting habits. Trouble is, who else will want him ?
