Hunterdon County will celebrate it’s 300th birthday in 2014 and the non-profit group that is planning the year-long celebration wants every municipality to participate.
Marcia Karrow and Cynthia Yard came to the Tewksbury Township Committee meeting on April 26 to discuss what is planned so far. The pair has visited many other municipalities already.
A non-profit group has been formed to raise funds to cover costs of many events. At least one big event per month is planned with about 150 already scheduled.
Tewksbury will host walking tours of historic Oldwick. The township school district has also always been an active participant in the Mini Historians contest each year.
Committeeman Peter Melick suggested there be a contest to see who attends the most events. Karrow liked the idea. She said they might create trading cards that can only be obtained at events.
A new website Hunterdon300th.org is now up and running with many events already listed in the schedule. Karrow said the group is also now on Facebook and will start a blog soon.
Fundraisers are already underway. Karrow said the first order of magnets being sold for $10 each are almost sold out. The group hopes to raise $250,000 to cover expenses.
Volunteers have been joining the group but more are welcome Karrow said.
To be put on a mailing list to receive updates on the programs of the anniversary and meeting notices contact Marcia Karrow, Tricentennial Committee Chair at 300info@co.hunterdon.nj.us
