A clever television commercial contrasts the brave efforts of our Diggers with weak excuses given for not making it to the ANZAC Day Dawn Service.

ANZAC Day is a time for storytellers – and boy, do our diggers have some tales to tell!

LIke the story of brothers Russell and Greg Wiseman, who fought alongside each other on the fields of Vietnam, but will walk together in the Anzac Day parade for the first time in 42 years on Thursday

Or the sad account of Shailer Park’s Matthew Lambert, a skater boy from Logan who made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting in Afghanistan, whose memory lives on in the parks he frequented as a child.

And then there is the chilling story of WWII veteran Philip Andrews, who was aboard one of 14 merchant ships that set sail for Malta in 1942 when only five made it to their destination.

“We lost more men in those five days of fighting than Australia lost in the whole of the Vietnam War,” he said.

But nothing beats hearing a story of courage and service first hand, which is another good reason to get along to one of the hundreds of local Anzac Day events planned across Brisbane.

Below is a list of events, with suburbs listed alphabetically. Go along and get involved – you will be glad you did.
