BROOKSVILLE – Steve Klapka has retired from the Hernando County Sheriffs Office after 26 years of service, Public Information Officer Denise Moloney said Thursday. His last day on the job was April 8.
Klapka is the District 7 Director of the Fraternal Order of Police.
In 2012, the deputy was the subject of an internal investigation along with Brian and Wendy McGinnis, former sergeant and corporal, respectively, who had started a business without Sheriff Al Nienhuis approval
Hernando Today previously reported that Nienhuis found out about Serve and Protect Financial while attending a fundraiser at Rookies Sports Bar in Spring Hill.
Brian McGinnis said he had listed his wife as secretary of the company, but maintained she was not involved.
Wendy McGinnis resigned a few weeks later, and her husband resigned in May 2012.
Klapka was found on appeal to have not violated sheriffs office policy. His latest salary was listed as $58,491.68 annually.
