Old Salt spring Kingfish event draws near

The Madeira Beach-based Old Salt Fishing Club is gearing up for its 20th spring King of the Beach tournament on April 27. Over the years, anglers have caught some real monster kingfish, including a 55.76-pounder in 2006, although the average weight of winning fish has been 41.11 pounds. With a first-place prize of $20,000, the King of the Beach is one of the largest kingfish events in Florida. Old Salt members who register before April 22 pay $195 and nonmembers $215. Those members who register at the event will pay $215 and nonmembers $235. The club also needs help with missing information in its record book. If you know the winners of the fall 1993 and 1995 events, or have photos of former kings, email info@oldsaltfishing.org.
