We can give of our time or give of our money and for an upcoming event, there are some of us giving from our collections — works of art, pieces of jewelry or something unique we hope will have value for another.
It’s all for the first ever ‘Collector’s Collections’ fundraising event to benefit the Muheim Heritage House and Bisbee Mining Historical Museums on Sunday afternoon, April 28, at the Bisbee Royale.
It takes place at the all new and fabulously fun Bisbee Royale, thanks to the generosity of Sloane Bouchever, artist and proprietor, who is donating not only the place, but a painting of his own.
Whether your interest would be sparked by the chance to bid on a ruby and diamond ring (appraised over $3,000 in value), the gold and diamond-surrounded gemstone pendant pictured, the work of Liisa-Phillips-Smith, an original De Grazia watercolor, Bouchever’s ‘Blue Giant,’ — or just to see what else might surface — call 520-266-0401 to buy tickets anytime or also call Carrie at 432-7071 during the weekday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..
Maybe all you need to know is that it’s a party and a ticket is only $25, which includes a free drink, hors d’oeuvres, a chance to bid on the donated treasures and to check out the county’s newest movie venue and pub offering food, beer and wine.
I’ve been inside the Royale (thanks to having locked myself out of my car one recent weekday evening). It was a good place to wait to be rescued, but more than that, I think it could be the new place you want to go the next time you are celebrating something special.
And, we (the board of directors of the governing authority for the museums) think this effort to raise funds to support and operate the museums is something special, too.
The event begins at 2 p.m. and goes until 5 p.m. The Bisbee Royale is located at 94 Main St., in Old Bisbee.
These donated treasures will help us preserve two of Bisbee’s most dear attractions — the Muheim Heritage House with its 19th century architecture and period furnishings and the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum, which is a major draw for tourists interested in Bisbee history.
The event at Bisbee Royale is three weeks away, but it’s April and that means there are events going on everywhere — so, don’t forget to consider checking out the Water Expo and the Mall at Sierra Vista this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or the Earth Day events at our local farmers markets for Thursday and Saturday of next week.
There’s also the Festival of the Southwest taking place the 19, 20 and 21 at Veterans Memorial Park. There is entertainment and you can buy tickets for the carnival rides there; it’s a good place for some family fun.
Don’t forget — being outside means taking water along, wearing a hat during the hottest time of the day, seeking shade and wearing lightweight, long-sleeve shirts and sunscreen.
