The Bridgeport Woman’s Club will sponsor two fundraising events in the coming weeks, according to Barbara Wilburn, co-chair.
“We give a $500 scholarship to a Bridgeport High School graduate who is going into the medical field,” Wilburn said.
“To fund this scholarship, we hold a Benefit Card Party and Luncheon. This event has been held for many years, and will be held this year noon until 4 p.m. April 27 at the Benedum Civic Center,” Wilburn said. “Luncheon is served at noon.
“But as soon as everyone has finished eating, the tablecloths come off, and they get serious about playing cards,” Wilburn said.
Any type of game can be played, such as bridge or canasta, according to Wilburn.
“You can also bring a board game, play a game of rummy, or the new hand and foot card game,” said Ruth Allen, club member.
The luncheon this year will be a chicken salad platter with a Jell-O dessert.
“There will be door prizes, and everybody has a good time,” Wilburn said.
The Woman’s Club is also taking orders for ham loaves.
“We will be making those up for folks,” Wilburn said. “They will be available at the luncheon.”
These ham loaves are small individual loaves and cost $1 per loaf, according to Allen.
The cost for the card party is $10 a person. Reservations can be made by calling Barbara Wilburn at (304) 842-3395 or Brenda Swiger at (304) 842-4635. Teri Bracken is also taking reservations at (304) 842-6590.
The second fundraiser will be a pancake breakfast held from 8-10 a.m. May 11 at Applebee’s restaurant.
The cost for all the pancakes you can eat is $5, with the proceeds to benefit Relay for Life.
“You don’t need a ticket,” Wilburn said. “You can just pay at the door. Or tickets are available from any member.”
