This column includes announcements of seminars, workshops, community events, fundraisers and other programs for which there is an admission charge, a donation expected or you are otherwise expected to spend money, such as shopping events. Advance registration is required at some these events, so you might see them listed here weeks before they are scheduled to occur.

What: The Hits@TCA: December ’63 – The Music of Frankie Valli The Four Seasons
When: Friday, April 12, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Tempe Center for the Arts
This Frankie Valli Retrospective pays tribute to the lead singer of the Four Seasons, whose classic songs, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk Like a Man, Rag Doll and Can’t Take My Eyes off of You were all the rage. Tickets start at $20 (additional service fees may apply). Students reeive a $5 discount.
What: Feast on the Street
When: Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Downtown Phoenix
A dinner party in the new urban harvest tradition, centered on a half-mile long community dining table on First Street from Taylor to Moreland, presented by the ASU Art Museum and Roosevelt Row CDC. Purchase locally sourced food, participate in sustainability and collaborative art demonstrations, enjoy a mobile garden parade and more. Music, food trucks, downtown restaurants, a mainstage and beer garden. Guests purchase dinner at participating restaurants and food trucks and gather at the dining table on First Street from Taylor on the south to Moreland on the north.
What: Mosaic Arts Center Open House and $7 Seventies Fundraising Dance
When: Saturday, April 13, 2013. Open House 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (free admission), $7 Seventies Dance at 7 p.m.
Where: 12 E. Western Ave, Avondale
Demonstrations and activities related to using Art to engage learners in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). There will be a presentation at 3pm – What is STEM? Why is it important and how to talk with your kids about it. Then at 7 p.m. boogie and hustle to the hits of the 70’s – the dance will be a family friendly event. Tickets for the dance will be available at the door and also available online.
What: M.A.D. Wiffleball Classic
When: Sunday, April 14, 2013 from p.m. to p.m.
Where: Salt River Fields, Multi-purpose field, Scottsdale
The M.A.D. Wiffleball Classic is a family-style celebrity/amateur wiffleball tournament to benefit M.A.D. (Make a Difference) Ministries, a faith-based 501-(c)3 charitable organization. Hosted by ESPN sideline reporter Samantha (Steele) Ponder and her husband, Minnesota Vikings quarterback, Christian Ponder. There is no admission fee to be a spectator, though donations will be accepted. A Kids’ Zone play area and food and drinks will be available for purchase. The event will consist of 24 teams of seven players, with celebrity players on each team. Participants can make a tax deductible donation of $300 each for one position on a 7 person team, composed of two celebrities and five amateurs. Registration is required for participants in the tournament. Registration Closing Date: Friday, April 12, 2013.
What: ASU Concert: Drumatic Dialogues
When: Monday, April 15, 2013. 6:30 p.m talk, 7:30 p.m. concert
Where: Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts
ASU’s Contemporary Percussion Ensemble presents a program of exotic rhythms and vibrant colors, tracing the history of percussion from the 1920s to the present. On stage will be drums from a wide array of musical cultures, melodic percussion instruments derived from Asian, African and South American traditions and a large collection of found, constructed and recycled instruments. Tickets are $10 each, free for all students with a current I.D.
What: Celebrate STARS (Scottsdale Training and Rehabilitation Services) 40th Anniversary at the Throwback Fiesta
When: Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Scottsdale Stadium
Show your support for teens with autism, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, seizure disorders and traumatic brain injuries. For 40 years, STARS has been providing quality programs and services that ensure individuals with disabilities have access to jobs, a chance to make friends and be included in the community and to live a happy, healthy and productive life. Proceeds from Fiesta benefit STARS Transitions Program that provides services to youth and families in need of a stepping stone between school and post-school life. Food, drinks, silent auction items, STARS art auction, live music. $50 in advance, $125 at the door.
What: Project Ethos, Presented by Scion
When: Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Where: W Scottsdale, 7277 East Camelback Road, Scottsdale
Project Ethos features signature runway showcases, a live concert, and a dynamic art experience, all under one roof. Scottsdale marks the second stop of the west coast tour, showcasing emerging fashion designers, musicians, and artists, including local talent. 21+ only, Red carpet/Upscale Attire Event (Jackets for men required). Tickets for seating are available online.
What: Pajamas and Pancakes
When: Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: My AZ Kitchen, 3821 E. Baseline Rd., Gilbert
In honor of National Autism Awareness Month, ASU Autism Research Program is hosting their first ever Zoowalk Kick-off Pajamas and Pancakes event. It’s breakfast for dinner. Come in your pajamas. Actvities includes Bread Making Class, face painting, T-Shirt design, and a mini Farmers Market. Enjoy a meal from a selection of pancakes (gluten-free and casein-free options available), eggs, bacon, and sausage with your choice of coffee or orange juice available. $5 per person, $2 for children under 12.
What: Hope Breakfast
When: Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Where: Phoenix Country Club Ballroom, 2901 N. Seventh Streeet, Phoenix
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Diane Sklar, who has served as the lead surgeon on surgical missions to Esperanca’s surgical program sites in Nicaragua and Bolivia since 2006. Serving as lead surgeon includes recruiting her team members which include anesthesiologists, nurses, and support staff, and procuring thousands of dollars in medical donations for each mission. Esperança is a global health non-profit that provides life-changing programs to over 100,000 people a year. This breakfast is an opportunity to hear how patients and families have been transformed by Esperança and the impact our volunteers have on their lives. There is no charge for the meal, but they ask to consider a gift to support their programs.
