ALTAMONT — Katren Rienbolt took both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs as Fort Scott High School’s track and field teams opened their seasons at the Labette County Invitational here Thursday.
Both the varsity and junior varsity competed with Fort Scott’s JV boys claiming the team title with 162 points and 25 medals.
Both of the varsity teams brought a minimal number of contestants. Tigers girls finished in fifth place as four girls won seven medals. Only two boys won medals as the boys finished ninth out of 10 teams.
Rienbolt and senior Paige Denton posted a 1-2 finish in the 1,600 meters. Rienbolt won in 5 minutes, 37 seconds while Denton came in at 5:43. Parsons’ Kaylee Krull was third in 5:49.
Rienbolt took the 3,200 in 11:54 with Krull second in 12:07 and Denton third in 12:11.
Jillian Lattimer won two medals, finishing second in javelin with a mark of 116 feet, 3 inches and third in shot put at 32′ 9 1/2″. Brianne Lawrence claimed third in discus with a distance of 100′ 3″.
The boys’ medalists were Chris Allen, third in javelin with a distance of 150′ 11″, and Brendan Blackburn, fifth in discus with an effort of 102′ 3″.
Five boys and one relay team won events in the junior varsity meet. Weston Woodring took two individual medals by winning the 1,600 meters in 5:26 and the 3,200 in 11:22. Garin Sinn won shot put with a mark of 34′ 11 3/4″. Brendyn Quinney claimed the long jump with at 17′ 7 1/2″. Nick Woods won discus with an effort of 108′ 1″. And Austin Rogers took triple jump at 34′ 7″.
The 4×100-meter relay team of Tyler Endicott, Woods, Quinney and Seth Marshall was a winner in 48.10 seconds.
The boys finished 56 points ahead of runner-up Labette County in team standings. Coffeyville was a distant third with 63 points.
Girls’ individual winners were Cassidy Westhoff in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.83 seconds and Elisha Hasenplaugh in triple jump at 29′ 10 1/2″. Hasenplaugh was also on the winning 4×100-meter relay team with Michaela Webb, Maddie Barbour and Keaira Meadows in 55.24 seconds.
In all, the girls won 11 medals in finishing third as a team with 73 points. Chanute won the team title with 89 points followed by Iola with 82.
The junior varsity team competes Tuesday at Pittsburg. The varsity runs again Friday at Paola.
