OWENSBORO, Ky. (2/20/13) – The Southeast Tourism Society has named Patriot Days as one of its Top 20 Events for September 2013. This award qualifies Patriot Days to be marketed in over 1600 newspapers, magazines, radio stations, TV stations, and AAA publications across 12 states in the southeast region of the U.S.
Patriot Days, entering its fifth year, is a living history festival that celebrates the colonial frontier of the early United States, loosely focused on the time period between the Revolutionary War and Kentucky’s Statehood in 1792. One aspect of the festival is the distribution of pocket constitutions, both State and Federal, to every visitor. Since its inception, the festival has distributed thousands of Constitutions to children and adults alike.
The colonial frontier period of American history is very unique in Western Kentucky as it was the first area truly opened up to westward migration following American Independence. Prior to this time, settlers moving west often represented European powers. As the war ended, though, the settlers moving into what was then western Virginia were, very much, Americans.
Patriot Days is held annually in Daviess County’s own Pioneer Village featuring rustic cabins and barns, an actual one-room schoolhouse and a working Blacksmith’s forge. Pioneer Village is secluded in beautiful Yellow Creek Park.
The Owensboro Daviess County Convention Visitors Bureau submits events throughout the year for consideration to be listed as one of the society’s featured events.
Congratulations to Sean Dysinger and all those that put so much effort into this festival. In 2012, over 2000 people attended the festival, which included a Buffalo Dinner to start things off.
This year’s dates for the Patriot Days festival are September 13-15, 2013.
