ELLICOTTVILLE — It appears Centurion Cycling, a regional bike-racing series which hosted a weekend in Ellicottville last year, will not be returning to the United States in 2013.
In 2012, the series hosted four events — two in Ontario and two in New York, including the mid-August weekend in Ellicottville. In late December, the official Centurion Cycling Facebook page released its 2013 schedule without Ellicottville listed.
Centurion officials were notified that the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors had decided not to bring the event back, “due to overall costs and our concern that we could not get a large enough turnout to justify the expense,” according to Brian McFadden, executive director at the chamber.
When asked for comment in January, Krista Flanigan, a representative from Centurion Cycling, said additional financial support was needed. McFadden said at the time Ellicottville would welcome the series back if they could find sponsors to cover the cost.
On. Jan 24, Centurion Cycling released an updated 2013 schedule that also removed the other New York event, in Lake George, from the listing. The remaining two events are the Subaru Centurion Ontario at Horseshoe Falls in June and Subaru Centurion Canada in The Blue Mountains in September.
