The Book Corner: Burlington Reads 2013, Children & Teen Events

The Burlington Public Library has a bunch of upcoming events and accounts of past events residents can check out. The following is a press release listing what has happened, is currently happening and what is coming soon.

“Burlington Reads 2013” Events

Our month- long schedule of events begins on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:00pm at the library with the first book discussion.  Join us for the first of 4 opportunities to discuss “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” by Jamie Ford.  If you haven’t yet read the book, you can check out a copy at the library, or pick one up at the Recreation Department, the Council on Aging, or True North Café.  Some copies of the book were generously donated by Diane Bedard/Home Source Realty Group.

You’ll want to mark your calendar for Thursday, February 28 at 7:00pm at the library as we present the first program of “Burlington Reads 2013”.  Enjoy the jazz of the 1940’s as the Sinti Rhythm Band presents “Wartime Swing.  Their music will bring us back to the times when Keiko and Henry were young.  This program, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Burlington and the Board of Library Trustees, will be the perfect launch for “Burlington Reads”.

Plan to attend as many “Burlington Reads” events as possible for the chance to win a night at Burlington’s own hotel, the Burlington Marriott.  Just fill out a free raffle ticket at each event that you attend and you could win this wonderful prize of a Friday or Saturday night’s stay with breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children under 12, donated by the Marriott of Burlington.

For a list of all of our programs and events, visit our website (burlingtonpubliclibrary.org).  Printed brochures are available due to the generosity of The Printing Place, Inc.  and can pick up at the library, the Town Hall and locations where books are available (listed above).

Children’s “Burlington Reads” Display

To tie in with the Burlington Reads Program title for adults, “Hotel On the Corner of Bitter and Sweet”, we have a display of books about Chinese/Japanese heritage for preschoolers through young adults.  Come celebrate these rich origins with us!

Teens

There’s still time to stop in to pick out your Blind (Book) Date! There are brown-paper-covered books for you to choose from on display in the Young Adult area. The title, author, and genre of the book will be hidden, so who knows what you will end up with! Take a chance and discover your next favorite book! Go on as many “dates” as you would like; there is no limit to the number of Blind Date Books you can check out!

Then join the Blind (Book) Date Meet-Up on Thursday, February 28, @3:30 pm when all blind book daters will get together to talk about how their book “dates” went.  Snacks will be provided!
