Neston Scrabble Fan Writes ‘Wicked’ Bestseller

Neston U3A stalwart and Scrabble-lover Sheila John of Little Neston, is causing quite a stir after writing a new book.

Scottish-born Sheila, who has lived in the local area for some 30 years, has written ‘Wicked Wee Words’ – a book listing three letter words that can help players achieve top scores.  The book lists words taken from the official Scrabble dictionary, to ensure they can be used in the game, listed in a unique way.

Sheila explained: “It is different from a usual dictionary because the words are listed in a way that if the letter you have is in the middle of a word it’s easy to find.

“I’ve always liked playing Scrabble and this is something that hasn’t been done before.”

Sheila wrote the book around five years ago, over the course of several months, initially just for fun. However, after printing off a few copies for friends, their positive comments led her to explore self-publishing.  Ultimately this in turn led to an American publisher – AuthorHouse – due to the popularity of the game in the States.

Wee Wicked Words is now available through top outlets such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble, both in paper version and as an e-book. With millions playing the game worldwide, this unassuming tome is now expected to hit bestseller lists.

The former pharmacy technician at Clatterbridge Hospital said: I’m quite old to have published my first book, but it is a thrill to see the finished article.”
