The Frontier Village Association could be hosting a World Fast Draw Association event in August if it can raise $5,000 for expenses.

The FVA Board authorized Treasurer Bert Gray in January to send a letter to Frank Lawton, a contact for the WFDA, indicating the FVA would like to host an event in August. A $200 sanction fee was included with the letter.

At the FVA Board meeting Thursday, member Tina Busche said Lawton called her and let her know he had received the letter and sanction fee.

“He said he is waiting for the contract to come in,” she said.

The event is tentatively titled the Jamestown Shootout and is scheduled for Aug. 9-10. The event is already listed on the WFDA’s Facebook page as a sanctioned event.

“We will be asking our local hotels to provide sponsorships for the event,” Busche said after the meeting. In exchange, each hotel that becomes a sponsor will be listed on the WFDA’s national

registry.

“People who register for the shootout will see these hotels first on the association’s website,” she said.

Guns used in WFDA events shoot either blanks or wax bullets to break paper targets or balloons. The purpose of these contests is to determine the fastest and most accurate shooters. Contestants also dress in cowboy regalia, often in the style of older western movies.

In other news, the board unanimously approved having the executive committee review any applications for the open manager position and make a recommendation to the full board at its next regular meeting. Busche said only one person, Cindy Engels of Jamestown, has applied. Chairman Charlie Tanata said he had two other people express interest in the job, but so far neither has submitted a formal application. The seasonal position is 26 hours per week and pays $10 an hour. Anyone wanting to apply for the position should call 701-320-2725.
