One house, six sales: A look at one Burnaby home

The house has been good to one man over the years, time and time again.

“Obviously in hindsight this home has been my best friend,” said realtor Gary Love. “It’s been really great.”

Love has sold the Government Road area home six times in his 42-year career.

The first time was in 1971 for about $35,000.

“I listed the property and was putting the sign in the front yard, and a young couple drove around the corner, stopped, went inside and I sold it to them,” said Love. “I thought I was in the best business that I could ever have got into, and that was the beginning of my career.”

He quickly learned it’s never that easy. Houses don’t sell themselves, and six-time repeat business is only possible with the right agent.

In 2004 the house went for $467,000. Three years later, an even $750,000. And late 2012 Love made one of his first sales, one of his last for $1,018,500.

He’s had a front row seat for the explosion of Greater Vancouver real estate, and a few unsustained dips.

“But obviously the trend no matter what, in this Greater Vancouver area, is for increase of real estate prices,” said Love. “I know I wish, and I know everyone else too, we could have foreseen the future back then, and we’d have maybe all tried to own more Vancouver real estate.”
