A new use has been found for a Victorian listed building in Brigg that is the only one of its kind in North Lincolnshire.
North Lincolnshire Council is spending £250,000 on re-roofing and refurbishing the former Brigg Grammar Schoool boarding house.

For decades the four-storey building provided a home-from-home for pupils sent away to board by their parents – including RAF officers, landowners and farmers.
Boarding continued after Brigg Grammar was replaced by the Sir John Nelthorpe comprehensive in 1976.

However, demand for boarding places continued to fall and the facility came to an end.
The boarding accommodation, incorporating the former headmaster’s house, was then transformed for educational use, including a sixth form centre.
The age of the building and state of the roof have been increasing problems in recent years.
However, North Lincolnshire Council has now stepped in to give the old building a new 21st century lease of life.
Councillor Rob Waltham (Brigg and Wolds), cabinet member for people services, said: “The school will still use most of the classrooms. The remainder will be used to train employees of the council, nurses and doctors, the police and school governors.”
Councillor Waltham said the old boarding house enjoys grade two listed building status.
It is only a few yards from the original 17th century schoolroom, which is Brigg’s only grade one listed structure.
The school was founded through provisions made in the will of Scawby landowner Sir John Nelthorpe in 1669.
