Save the Children has put its corporate headquarters at 54 Wilton Road on the market, although the international relief agency is not committed to selling the waterfront office building.

The two-story structure on the Saugatuck River is listed for sale by Cushman Wakefield’s Private Capital Group. The building encompasses 58,771 square feet and sits on 2.59 acres, according to a listing on the group’s website.

Although the property is on the market, the agency is only gauging interest in the property, said Jeremy Soulliere, a communications associate for Save the Children.

“We’re just seeking offers and seeing if it’s worthwhile to sell at this time,” he said.

“There has been interest in the building and we’ve had a few prospective buyers look at the building.”

Calls and emails to Cushman Wakefield’s Private Capital Group were not immediately returned.

Soulliere said the building, which has housed the headquarters since 1974, was put on the market in early December.

Soulliere said the organization is considering other options to make room for possible future growth at its headquarters, where the number of employees has grown to 292 workers from 75 workers in 1974.

“We always knew in the back of our minds that we may not be able to accommodate our growing needs in this building,” he said, adding that it currently provides adequate room for its staff. “We’re just looking toward our future.”

The agency will focus on keeping its headquarters in Fairfield County if it does decide to sell the Wilton Road building, Soulliere said.

“We’ve been a part of Fairfield County for almost 40 years and have had some great support here,” he said.
