Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that 33 year old striker Jason Scotland has been told he can leave the club for pastures new following the recent arrival of additional strikers.
According to several reports, both in the media and online, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton and Hove Albion are the front runners to land the Trinidad and Tobago forward who has managed to appear in just one game since the appointment of Town boss Mick McCarthy.
Scotland is considered to have dropped several places down the pecking order at Portman Road following the arrival of Aaron Mclean and David McGoldrick on loan until the end of the season this month, with Frank Nouble also signing for the club, and with Scotland turning 34 next month, a move that will provide him with first team football will be attractive to the player.
Confirming the decision to allow Scotland leave the club, Town boss Mick McCarthy commented: “Jason is likely to be going somewhere. He’s been fabulous, Jason, he’s such a lovely character and a nice man, he’s been great around the place.
“But we’re going younger and hungrier, I guess, and unfortunately Jason’s missing out. But he understands and he’d like to go and play football somewhere in the twilight of his career.”
Scotland netted ten times in his first season (2010/2011) at Portman Road in 45 games, adding nine goals in 38 matches last season earning a reputation as a hard worker.
He has represented his country 41 times and scored eight goals, appearing alongside Town team-mate Carlos Edwards on a number of occasions. He retired from international football during September 2011.
