As testament to the increasing number of visitors to Iceland during the holiday season, a multitude of events are on offer in the capital and around the country.
This year there were Christmas markets in several locations, tours and events at the Árbær Open Air Folk Museum, Maritime Museum and Reykjavík Family Park and Zoo.
There’s also been a buffet of Christmas concerts and album launches. In the lead-up to Christmas, popular Icelandic musicians Retro Stefson, Ásgeir Trausti, Hjaltalín, Jón Jónsson, Bubbi Morthens and Árstíðir held concerts.
This evening, for example, you can catch Icelandic folk pop band Hvanndalsbræður, or if rock is more your thing, the band Sign. There are also classical concerts on offer including performances by Garðar Thór Cortes and various choirs.
If you’re in Akureyri in the north, you should try to catch Ásgeir Trausti and Moses Hightower.
For other events in the capital region throughout the Christmas and New Year’s period, you’ll find daily events listed on the website of Visit Reykjavík.
We’re often asked if there is anything to do during Christmas in Iceland. The answer is a resounding: ‘yes’.
Wherever you are, enjoy the rest of the holiday season.
