Nearly two years after classes were last held at St. Michael School, the Main Street building remains vacant and on the market.
After contemplating keeping a portion of the 16,000-square-foot school building for religious education and leasing the remainder, the Boston Archdiocese opted to put the building up for sale.
A handful of prospective buyers, including schools and athletic training companies, have shown interest in the property since it was put on the market in June. David Curley, a senior associate with O’Brien Commercial Properties, declined to comment on any sales activity or timeline for a possible sale.
Terry Donilon, a Boston Archdiocese spokesman, could not be reached for comment.
For sale signs are posted in front of and on the side of the school. The property is currently listed at $925,000, according to O’Brien Commercial Property’s website.
St. Michael School, which was founded in 1918, closed in June 2011 because of mounting parish debt and declining enrollment. Two years earlier, Hudson Catholic High School closed because of declining enrollment.
After Hudson Catholic High School closed in 2009, St. Michael School moved into the former high school building until the school closed.
At the time of St. Michael School’s closure, the parish’s debt was about $983,000l.
The former St. Michael School features a newly refurbished 8,694-square-foot gym and 7,200 square feet of office or classroom space, as well as parking.
