Plans to extend a listed building in Topsham have been withdrawn by the applicant. Read this and more.

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS: A Christmas flower arranging demonstration is being hosted by Topsham Flower Club.

It will be given by Sandy Bailey, and takes place at Matthews Hall on December 11 at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £10, including a mince pie and tea or coffee. There will also be a raffle and a sales table.

SONG STAR: Adam Isaac, who starred in BBC talent contest The Voice earlier this year, is to appear in a charity concert in Topsham.

The concert, which will feature support from Celine Dos Santos, takes place at Matthews Hall on December 15 at 8pm.

The show is being presented by Hospiscare. Tickets cost £10, and are available in advance from Westaways, Ash Marine, Route 2, or from Wes Down on 07540 879969.

KEYBOARD CHRISTMAS: Exeter Electronic Keyboard Club is holding its Christmas Concert in Topsham.

It will feature Byron Jones, and takes place at Matthews Hall on December 6.

Doors open at 6pm for a 7.30pm start, and the performance will include a 20 minute break for tea, coffee and mince pies, and a raffle. Tickets are available on the door costing £6.

PLANS WITHDRAWN: Plans to extend a listed building in Topsham have been withdrawn by the applicant.

The work was to take place at Quay Gardens in Monmouth Hill.

CRASH SCENE: Fire crews were called out last week to deal with a road traffic collision on the B3179 at Clyst St George.

On arrival at the incident, which involved two cars, crews found that all persons were free and clear of the vehicles, and made the scene safe.

CAROL FOCUS: The Clyst Valley Choral Society’s planned concert at St Margaret’s Church last weekend had to be cancelled.

However, the society is still set to appear in Topsham for a carol concert at St Nicholas Church on December 13.

RIDDLES LAUNCH: A new book by a Topsham calligrapher is being launched in the town.

Alma Swan’s Twelve Topsham Riddles will be launched in the St Margaret’s Church social area on December 4 at 6pm.

Signed copies will be available on the night, and the book will then be available in Topsham Bookshop, costing £10.

FINE DINING: Topsham’s Salutation Inn has reopened its doors this week, after an extensive refurbishment.

The Grade Two listed establishment is no longer a pub, and will instead operate as an inn and fine dining restaurant.

RESTORATION: An historic Thames barge has arrived in Topsham for restoration.

The barge Vigilant was built in 1904, and is one of only around 30 Thames barges still in existence. Formerly used for delivering cargo and for racing, the barge has fallen into disrepair, but is set to be fully restored.
