Contemporary castlemore big

The Palm Spring house of Bob Hope and his wife Dolores Hope may be up for sale shortly, according to Real Estalker. The house is listed for a mammoth $45 million. The torus-shaped residence apparently has a helipad in the center of the mansion. The house has a 25,000 square foot area. “Vanity Fair” magazine has named it as a contemporary castle.

The modern castle was designed by John Lautner in 1973.  LA Curbed  described it as “one of the most distinctive works of architecture in the entire Cohella Valley”. It has six bedrooms and four bathrooms. The house is placed above 200 feet; hence one gets  jaw dropping views of the sturdy mountains and streets of Palm Springs. It has an in ground swimming pool and acres of lawn.

This little palace has always not got positive reactions; it has been compared to a doughnut on acid, a flying saucer and other disparaging comments. Reports say that the house designing was taken over by Dolores Hope midway and Lautner distanced himself from it.

The magnificent piece of architecture was custom designed for the Hope family. Bob Hope was an actor, comedian and an author who died in 2003 due to pneumonia. Dolores Hope was a singer and a philanthropist. She died in 2011 aged 102.

There are a number of other renowned houses in the area. The Cody House of Chicago-based industrialist Stanley Goldberg is one of them. The house was designed by modernist architect William Cody.
