Italy’s stock exchange Borsa Italiana has reached the mark of 800 Exchange traded products listed on ETFplus, its dedicated market for the trading of ETFs, ETCs and ETNs.
The milestone was reached 10 years after the first ETF was listed on the Italian markets, following Lyxor’s listing of ETF Euro Stoxx 50 Daily Short and Lyxor ETF MTS BTP 1-3Y Italy Government Bond on the exchange.
The product range now available includes 196 developed market ETFs, 96 emerging market ETFs, 126 bond ETFs, 31 Style ETFs, 168 asset class ETFs and 172 ETCs and 12 ETNs on foreign currency, from 11 separate issuers.
Since 2005, Borsa Italiana has led the market for the number of traded contracts on ETFs on an electronic platform.
In the first ten months of 2012, ETFplus has seen an average of 11,311 daily contracts traded.
“When we look at Exchange traded products over the last ten years we see a fantastic story of growth and diversification, attracting both institutional and private investors. This milestone of reaching 800 listed instruments confirms the wide range of products available on ETFplus and the central role of Borsa Italiana in developing this market at an international level,” said Pietro Poletto, head of fixed income markets of London Stock Exchange Group.
