As Long Islanders continue to rebound and recover after Super Storm Sandy and the Nor’Easter weather event that came right after, a slew of collection efforts and fundraisers are being held and planned.

To help the many Patch readers who are looking to help out either by donating or attending a fundraiser Patch has put together a list of events and donation events. If you know of one not listed please add it to the comments section and Patch will update the list throughout the week.

Blue Point Neighbors Rally to Help a Friend

Neighbors and friends of Frannie Columbine, a lifelong Blue Point resident, will hold a fundraiser at the Harbor Crab on Friday, November 16, starting at 7 p.m., to help Columbine rebuild his damaged home and replace needed house items. Everything from furniture to skills and auction items are welcome. There will be 50/50 raffles at the event, and all donations can be made payable to the Bayport-Blue Point Foundation. Donation Effort Ongoing in Sayville

Non-perishable food goods, as well as personal care items are being collected at 204 Middle Road in Sayville, and the next delivery is today. The list of needed items also includes bottled water and drinks, Parmalat boxed milk, baby formula, winter coats and clothing, lawn/construction bags, cleaning supplies, EasytoEat meals,non-perishable food and granola bars, baby supplies, blankets, pillows and sleep sacs and anything else.

Collection Effort Aids Pets Impacted by Hurricane Sandy

The Bayport Village Animal Health Center and Dr. D. are collecting cat and dog food for pet victims through the Suffolk County SPCA. If you would like to donate, please drop off food anytime during office hours. Dr. D has also been volunteering his time with SPCA in Babylon helping and treating pets that were affected during and after the storm.

Sayville Chamber Donation Project Moves to Larger Headquarters

The Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce’s ongoing effort has found new larger headquarters for its donation drive. It’s now located at the former Sayville Library building at 11 Collins Avenue, Sayville. Hours staffed change depending on when supervision volunteer staff available. Drop offs if not open can always be made at the Seafarer Gift Shop, and any gift cards or monetary donations should be brought or shipped directly to the gift shop, which is the communications phone headquarters. Seafarer Gift Shop is located at 28 South Main St. Sayville. Bayport-Blue Point School District Cares

The Bayport-Blue Point High School will be a designated drop-off site for relief supplies to assist those in our community who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The dates are Wednesday, November 14 and Thursday, November 15 at Bayport-Blue Point High School Dance gym between the hours of 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Items needed include bottled water, blankets, towels, batteries, diapers, warm gloves, canned good, garbage bags, gift cards, pet food, school supplies, plastic containers.

Bayport Black Belt Collection Drive

Bayport Black Belt Champions in Bayport has been collecting food, clothing, household items and bringing to the Sayville Fire Dept Daily. It will continue to collect items until further notice and you do not need to be a student to drop off at our center. Also we are in the process of organizing a fund raising event at BlackBirds in Sayville. The date we are planning on is December 4th from 6:30-9PM. All proceeds will go to local families who have lost their homes in Sandy. We are also planning a “family workout” where moms, dads and kids can all come in have some fun and train together….100% of the money collected from this event will be directly given to families who lost everything in the storm. We are requesting a minimum donation of $20 per family of for but any donation will be accepted.  For more information call 631-868-3115 or check out the website .

Sweet Frog Effort Going Strong

The frozen yogurt store on Sunrise Highway in Sayville continues to collect items, except fo rclothing and donations needed include baby food, diapers, wipes and toiletries.

Walk to Run Launches Toy Drive, Healthy Fundraising Event

Walk to Run Fitness is running a toy drive and walk-run event to help those impacted by Super Storm Sandy. Families will walk/run 1 ½ miles to show their support for the many victims who lost so much on Long Island. Participants in the event, which will be held Saturday, November 17^th at Grange Park in Sayville, are asked to bring a toy for families suffering from the storm events. The event starts at 10 a.m. This will not be a timed race.  The course will be three laps through the Grange park grounds. Islip Organizations Join Forces on Supply Drive

The GREATER ISLIP CARES (Sponsored by the Islip Foreign Trade Zone, Woman of West Islip, Keep Islip Clean and the Sayville Community Ambulance) at 180 Orville Drive in Bohemia (building next to Post Office) is open for drop off’s anyone who is in NEED of supplies. Hours are 9am-8pm.

Volunteers Needed to Bag Thanksgiving Meals

Robert Jesberger, owner of Mid Island Collision, a Rockville Center based automotive repair center, recently purchased over $100,000 in non-perishable food items, enough to fill five tractor-trailers, which will provide over 10,000 Thanksgiving meals to Long Island charitable organizations and individuals and families devastated by super-storm Sandy. Jesberger is calling for hundreds of volunteers to donate some of their time between 12pm, November 20 throughout the night to 2pm, November 21 to assist in creating bags of meals.
