A $2.9 million property listed for sale at Cooee Bay, sold in less than two months for close to the asking price.

The beachfront property settled yesterday and is further evidence that the property market on the Coast remains strong despite a slowing mining sector.

A Lacoa Real Estate spokesman yesterday said the sale was the second highest in Yeppoon, after a property sold for $3 million in March, 2007.

Lacoa sales agent Alan Thomasson said the market on the Coast was generally ‘very good’.

“Properties up to $500,000 are selling because the rents are so good … well-priced properties are selling,” he said.

The Cooee Bay property sits on 1312sq m of land at 42 The Esplanade, and agent Paul Nagle said you wouldn’t find a block of land this size overlooking the beach anywhere in Queensland.

It was the first time the nine-year-old property was listed for sale.

Emu Park real estate agent Kevin Doolan has been in the property business for almost 40 years.

He says thanks to the region’s diverse economy and lower interest rates, housing sales have been better than ever.

“The weakening mining industry really hasn’t affected our region,” he said.

“What we are missing is that tourism market. Hopefully we can get that with new developments involving Great Keppel Island.”
