CITY councillors have agreed to review the listed building status of a former factory premises involved in the Allams’ redevelopment plans.
The disused concrete workshop at the former Rosedowns factory is commonly known as the Hennebique building.
The title comes from the building method originated by French engineer Francois Hennebique, who patented his pioneering reinforced-concrete construction system in 1892.
The workshop in Cannon Street is thought to be the second-oldest building of its type in the UK.
As such, it has grade two listed building status.
But some councillors feel the designation is holding back redevelopment of the site because of the requirement to retain a building which has not been used for more than 40 years.
